Alternative Cognition

"Fantastic Service - very happy with the outcome. Thank you." - K.S. (Jersey)

Alternative Cognition is based on the ‘here, now and future only’ concept. It takes no notice of the past.

Past Event:

Many things that have happened in our lives affect the way we experience life now. However, we are unable to change them. What has happened, has happened and those events, no matter how painful or traumatic, cannot be altered. Fact 1.

Current Situation:

The past event has been dealt with in either a way that is of benefit to a person, or in a way that is unbeneficial to that person. Where it has been dealt with in an unbeneficial way, then the results will detrimentally affect the past and present existence of the individual to a greater or lesser degree. That person cannot change what has happened, but they can change how they look on what has happened. Fact 2.

Alternative Cognition Intervention:

The first rule is the intervention of the ‘here, now and future only’ concept or more simply put, the ‘Don’t Pick the Scab’ principle. It is initially used with the individual by discussion, argument, and suggestion in the normal awake state, then used again with the person whilst in the state of hypnosis. The Critical Factor used by the person in the awake state to judge what is being said to them, is no longer there under hypnosis. Consequently, the earlier arguments and suggestions given are much more easily and permanently accepted. The second rule in alternative cognition is that there are no ‘ifs, buts, etc’ allowed during the treatment session. Any positive statement used by the person will not be permitted to be diluted by a tag-on ‘but’, ‘however’ or other similar ‘excusing’ word. The aim of alternative cognition is to change the person’s thinking pattern of the past event so that the effects of it in the here and now will no longer be as devastating as they had been previously. They are taken from the distressed state to the cope-able state.

FUTURE SITUATIONS:

Experience in using this technique has resulted in rapid improvement in people who have had problems for many years, visiting many different specialists and trying numerous medications. The initial change between the first and second session is normally quite noticeable. By the time sessions three or four have been reached, the person will generally be able to cope fully without any further intervention on the part of the therapist. The foundation created during these sessions enables the person to go forward with a stronger and more hopeful attitude towards their lives and their future.

Conclusion:

Alternative cognition is generally more rapid than counselling or other psychological techniques such as cognitive behavioural therapy. I also believe it to be more permanent in it’s effects, purely by the way hypnosis is used to embed the new thinking patterns within the subconscious.
